Well, it's nice to finally write another BLOG.  2009 has gone by quickly and here at Doucette Insurance, LLC. we've had many ups (we now offer Progressive products, we have been working closely with the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments to create a long term business plan, and just today Friday December 18th, we held our annual customer appreciation day!) and just one down (Lina, our mother, gave us a medical scare this spring.  She was out most of the summer but now she is back full time and feels much better.  Thank you to everyone who sent their well wishes...it meant a great deal to all of us).

We plan to finish this year strong and are looking forward to entering 2010 and the new decade with a BANG!

We at Doucette Insurance, LLC wish everyone a Happy Holiday and best wishes for the New Year!

It Takes a Community...

Many thanks to everyone who attended our Grand Opening Reception on Thursday September 25th and our community Open House on Friday September 26th and Saturday September 27th.  It was nice to see so many come out, even in the rainy weather!  My mother, sister &I would like to say a special thanks to James Cadwell and Angelo Giberti for their help in making it all a success.  James was a huge help in the preparation and serving of the refreshments.  The fruit platter was amazing...thank you, James!

Angelo helped us with invitations and personally followed up the dignitaries who were invited to the Grand Opening Reception.  Thank you to the Mayor, Laurent F. Gilbert, Sr. and Maine State Representative, Elaine Makas for attending the reception.  During the reception, Angelo read from letters received by both Senators Olympia Snow and Susan Collins congratulating Doucette Insurance, LLC. on its Grand Opening.  Thank you, Angelo!

Well, it's Labor Day (9/1/08).   Though you wouldn't know it from the temperature.  It is beautiful and 80 degrees.  Just returned from a week's vacation and had a good time.  My husband and I went up to Northern Maine for a couple of days.  Today, Hurricane Gustav is hitting the Gulf Coast and with it, memories of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  Many kids go back to school tomorrow and some kids started school last week.  I have also seen a number of trees turning color, reminding me that fall is just a few weeks away.

And with the start of fall, Doucette Insurance, LLC. will be hosting the Grand Opening of our new Independent Property & Casualty Office on the dates below:

Friday September 26, 2008 10am-4pm

Saturday September 27, 2008 9am-Noon

We will be offering information regarding auto/homeowners and other types of insurance coverage, we can provide quotes upon request and of course there will be light fare and giveaways.  Be sure to join us!

The Summer Olympics & traveling Abroad

I have been watching a lot of the Summer Olympics over the past week.  The opening ceremony was quite a show.  Last night (Saturday 8/16/08), I watched Michael Phelps make Olympic history by winning his 8th gold medal.  I also watched the women's marathon which was won by Romania's Constantina Tomescu-Dita.  Who by the way is 38 years old!

There are also several Mainer's competing in Beijing, most notably Ian Crocker, who competed against Michael Phelps in the 100-meter butterfly.  Crocker just missed the bronze medal but he still holds the world record in this event.

Given the number of people attending the Summer Olympics and those who may not be attending the Olympics but are planning to take that summer vacation, I thought it would be helpful to let you know what your homeowners policy covers while abroad.  The personal property protection you get with your homeowners policy travels with you wherever you go.  For example, if your digital camera or cell phone is stolen while abroad, your homeowners will cover this up to your coverage limits and subject to any deductibles.  Also, your homeowners covers worldwide liability coverage.

At Doucette Insurance, LLC. we can answer any questions you have if you are planning a trip abroad and want to know exactly what coverage and protection your homeowners policy provides.  And, if you are like me and are staying home to watch the Olympics, Doucette Insurance, LLC. would be happy to provide a free quote for homeowners coverage!

Androscoggin River Running High

It seems to be rainy daily.  Given how saturated the ground is there has unfortunately been some flooding in areas.  Both Freeport and Yarmouth had road closures due to flooding.  My sister Kim & I thought we would take a look at the Androscoggin River which is right down the street from our office.   We wanted to see how high the river was.  We were not the only ones there taking a look.  There were a number of others taking in the view.  The river was running fast and was higher than usual.  We took the pictures above at about 5:00pm today (which happens to be the very symmetrical date of 08-08-08).

All of this got Kim & I talking about the importance of flood insurance.  To be completely honest, flood insurance is one of those things that is confusing and misunderstood by many.  So we thought to focus our inaugural BLOG entry for Doucette Insurance, LLC. on providing some information on Flood Insurance.

***************************************************************************************************************************************

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) found that 33 percent of U.S. heads of household still hold the false belief that flood damage is covered by a standard homeowners policy. Another crazy fact is that FEMA states approximately 50% of low flood zone risk borrowers think they are ineligible and CAN NOT buy flood insurance. Anyone can buy flood insurance as long as their community participates in the NFIP, even renters.

If you are eligible, you must purchase a separate flood insurance policy through an insurance co

Flooding is defined by the National Flood Insurance Program as a general and temporary condition of partial or complete inundation of two or more acres of normally dry land area or two or more properties (at least one of which is your property from: Overflow of inland waters, unusual and rapid accumulation or runoff of surface waters from ANY SOURCE, and mudflows.

This can be brought on by landslides, a hurricane, earthquakes, or other natural disasters that influence flooding, but while a homeowner may, for example, have earthquake coverage, that coverage may not cover floods as a result of earthquakes

If you are eligible, you must purchase a separate flood insurance policy through an insurance company that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Flood insurance is available for residents of approximately 19,000 communities nationwide.
